Hiking on the Jakobskreuz

For those of you who don’t want to head to the Jakobskreuz in the comfort of a gondola , there are a variety of hiking paths available. From St. Jakob in Haus, Hochfilzen and Fieberbrunn, hiking routes of medium difficulty level proceed to the popular viewing mountain.

And once you get to the summit, there is so much to explore on foot. For instance, across the Buchensteinwand ridge, there is a 1600 metre educational floral path. The romantic panorama path is replete with information display boards about Alpine plants. The circular path continues to a reservoir which has a dreamy backdrop and picturesque views.

Around the Jakobskreuz, the restaurants providing views to the summits and the valleys attract visitors. This means for instance that hikers can look forward to a refreshment stop in the Hoametzlhütte and the Tennalm. The restaurants, Das Bergblick and Das Weitblick, are located on the summit too. Delicious Tyrolean treats provide temptation here.

Head up to the Buchensteinwand

The Buchensteinwand is located at 1456m in the middle of Pillerseetal and offers a wonderful panoramic view to the Kitzbühel Alps, the Wilder Kaiser, the Hohe Tauern, Waidringer Steinplatte and to the Loferer and Leoganger Steinberge. From here you can see the highest mountain in Austria – the Großglockner – and its 3798m elevation, when the weather conditions are right. Up on the 30m Jakobskreuz – the biggest walk-in summit cross in the world – you are that bit closer to the heavens.
